The West Midlands is experiencing a spiral of social and economic decline including youth violence, mental health, unemployment and the cost of living.

At First Class Foundation our vision is a nation of young people and families free from the impact of crime and poor mental health, who are living purpose-filled lives.

We connect, mentor, and support the most marginalised black and ethnic minority young people and their families in the West Midlands.

To achieve our mission we have three core areas of focus:

– Reducing youth violence
– Improving mental health resilience
– Connecting young people to their purpose

Mentoring – 56 mentees in 2023

Step Together outreach and youth engagement for 11-16 year olds – 2832 students across 3 schools in 2023

Community Outreach and Engagement – 14,489 people over job fairs, food drives, First Class Fridays and outreach work in the City Centre

TESTIMONIALS

The Step Together programme is so valued by us at JQA. The team are amazing and connect so well with our students: they are wonderful role models - always kind and caring. Their very presence reassures the students that they are safe. The traffic can be challenging at the end of the day, considering the change in road priorities around the school but the team are always on hand to guide students safely. It’s great to see students chatting to them and there’s a lovely atmosphere of togetherness at the Chamberlain Clock - they respect the students and get it back!  The programme is a fantastic initiative that has significant impact in line with our values: quite simply, students are safer and more respectful as a result
